SHOWING UP
This is a story of two small town girls with big city dreams and
a bond that just won’t quit. Even when it drives them to madness…
SHOWING UP is a the semi-semi- autobiographical tale of longtime friends, Miranda and Vanessa. This funny, heart felt and honest musical tracks their journey from high school besties in small town America through their move to the big city to pursue their dreams of Broadway and beyond. Along the way, they encounter success and disappointment, the loss of old dreams and the creation of new ones. Their friendship is tested every step of the way, but more often than not, it is their saving grace.
Miranda and co-writer Vanessa are both dedicated teachers who are committed to giving college students hands-on opportunities to experience the unique process of working on new musicals. By collaborating with institutions like Princeton University, Miranda and Vanessa give students a chance to be a part of the developmental process of an original theatre piece, pulling back the curtain on the joys and challenges of putting a new musical into the world. It’s also a fantastic way for Miranda and Vanessa to see Showing Up rehearsed and performed by the next generation of big dreaming theater makers.
